SWIFT CURRENT, SK – We are excited to announce that $38,750 was raised during Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie and 100% of the proceeds went to the Southwest Facility Foundation. Along with recent generous commitments, from an anonymous donor and multiple families - we have officially raised over $4 MILLION! This exciting milestone takes the Foundation to the halfway mark of the $8 million goal in less than 2 years.
Our partners this year included Veren who donated 1000 cookies which they decorated and delivered cookies to schools across the Southwest. SWT sold cookies and collected donations at all 7 of their locations during the week. Other groups who helped out or placed large orders included the ER Nurses, Swift Hockey Co, Sundogs Volleyball Club, Great Plains College, Swift Current Chamber of Commerce, Golden West Radio, Swift Current 57’s, Chinook School Division, Mayor Al Bridal and City Councillors Ryan Plewis, Courtney Stewart, and Ryan Switzer, RCMP Staff Sgt Evan Gordon, and MP Jeremy Patzer, Redhead Equipment, Mercator Financial, Plewis Automotive Group, Great West Auto, Pattison Ag, Donaldson Family, and S3 Manufacturing.
“A huge thank you to Swift Current and the surrounding area for another successful Tim Hortons SMILE cookie campaign. Together we raised over $38,000 for the Southwest Facility Foundation. The Foundation did an amazing job organizing and sending volunteers to the Tim Hortons restaurants to decorate and assemble the cookies. Our hard-working team members were eager to support the campaign through their tireless work as they all see the Foundation’s vision as an integral part of our community. We are grateful for our partnership with the SWFF and want to again thank all of our guests for supporting Tim Hortons SMILE cookie week.” - Dade & Kori Getzinger, Pete & Norma Fehr, Tim Hortons owners
Funds are being raised to support future recreation facility construction projects approved by the City of Swift Current. The Foundation continues to work with the City and to engage with the community and stakeholders regarding the importance and benefit of getting these projects underway.
“Seeing the community come out and support this initiative is so motivating for our group. Raising almost $40,000 by selling cookies, is no small feat! It means a lot of people contributed to the success of this campaign and that’s what our mission is all about - coming together as a community
Thank you to Tim Hortons and the Fehr and Getzinger families for partnering with our Foundation, it’s always a lot of fun and we’re very grateful for the support. Thank you to everyone who helped decorate cookies, wave signs, and distribute cookies across the Southwest” - Caitlin Mann, SWFF Board of Directors
Along with fundraising, part of the Foundation’s mission is to share and educate the community about the need, importance, and benefits of new recreation facilities in Swift Current. New facilities provide much-needed space for residents of all ages to gather and participate in a variety of recreational activities, fostering a healthy and active community. Recreation facilities bring significant boosts to tourism, economic activity, and growth through tournaments, events, and increased visitors.
Currently, the City of Swift Current has submitted an application for the Canadian Green & Inclusive Community Buildings grant from the Federal Government which would be a percentage of the building cost. The grant is still outstanding and no grants have been awarded yet. The City of Swift Current continues to leverage and lobby all levels of government for their assistance and support of future projects.
