About the foundation

We are a community group committed to supporting the advancement of new recreation facilities in Swift Current.

Who We Are

What is the Southwest
Facility Foundation?

The Southwest Facility Foundation is a non-profit entity, made up of volunteers whose mandate is to provide a vessel for local philanthropists and fundraisers to contribute to the construction of new sport, leisure & recreation facilities in Swift Current.

Formed on the premise that if the community organized itself independently, in support of future City of Swift Current grant applications, those applications would be more successful.

How did we
get here?

Our Journey

2012

In late 2012, the City of Swift Current identified the need to assess the state of several facilities in the city. This included community consultation, planning sessions with project management and architectural firms, and facility tours of similar facilities in Alberta.

It led to a campaign called “Imagine If” where the community helped design a facility that would support the needs of the community no matter what age or ability.

2014

In April of 2014, a schematic design was released showing the dream of the community to build a new integrated facility that would include a swimming facility, field house, indoor track, Art Gallery, and Library with connections to surrounding facilities such as health care and public and catholic schools and a budding new housing development. Even though the project design was well received the overall cost proved to be too much for the city to move forward on at that time.

2020

In 2020, the City of Swift Current applied for funding through Investing in Canada Infrastructure Grant Program for the construction of the integrated facility and was not successful.

2022

In 2022 the City of Swift Current reached out again to the community via an online public survey to help in the development of a Strategic Plan for the City Council. Several of the themed questions received answers that related back to a need for new facilities highlighted by a strong desire for both an aquatic leisure centre and a field house

2023 & Beyond

The Southwest Facility Foundation was established in late 2022. Formed on the premise that if the community organized itself independently, in support of future City of Swift Current grant applications, those applications would be more successful.

The Southwest Facility Foundation was established with the goal of raising $8 million to support the development of new recreational facilities.

Our Mission

Community capital fundraising to support new recreational facilities in Swift Current.

Building for the future and fostering tourism and economic development.

Promoting wellness for everyone with accessible, multi-use recreation facilities.

Working together,
with a common goal.

With a mission to bring new recreation facilities to Swift Current, our goal is to raise $8 million to be donated to the City of Swift Current once a facility project is funded, approved, and shovel-ready.

Our Focus

Fundraising Focus

Our role is to fundraise capital from the community and contribute those funds to the City of Swift Current once a project is funded, approved, and shovel-ready. Community fundraising is a key factor in securing government grants and funding successful capital projects.

Projects in the pipeline include an aquatic leisure centre and a fieldhouse. These projects have been chosen, in this order, based on current facility conditions, feasibility, and grant funding available.

  • An aquatic leisure centre which would include a 50m lane pool, a leisure pool, lazy river, waterslide, hot tub, change rooms, and atrium.

  • An integrated field house which would include an indoor field/court, bleachers, concession, change rooms, atrium, and 3-lane walking track.
